Denise Nonomura originally graduated from college in the health care field and worked in hospital pharmacy for 35 years. However she always had a love for art, and in 2013 formally explored her artistic ability by attending Sheridan College of Arts and Design, where she graduated with high honors in 2015 from the Fine Arts Continuing Education Certificate Program. She was introduced to the medium of pastel in 2014 and has worked exclusively in the medium since that time. In January 2016, Denise retired from pharmacy and re-purposed her lab coat into a paint smock! She relocated to the beautiful city of Stratford and now pursues her passion for pastel painting at every opportunity whether en plein air or painting in studio from photographs of her travels.
Denise’s work has been exhibited in juried, group and solo shows. She is a member of Pastel Artists of Canada, Canadian Society of Artists, Gallery Stratford and a juried active member in the Federation of Canadian Artists.
“All too often our day to day lives keep us indoors far removed from the beauty that surrounds us. In my paintings I love to capture the uniqueness and light of the great outdoors utilizing various pastel techniques to present to the viewer a scene with wonderful colour and atmosphere. My works are representational and depict seascapes, landscapes and people enjoying our natural environment.” -Denise
