My creative passion and 30+ years of experience as an artist and arts educator are rooted in sharing the power of story and myth through art. I’m inspired by the natural world, ancientness and I love the power of visual metaphors. It was my deep yearning for texture and a return to mixed media and symbolism that lead me to explore encaustic as a medium. It was like coming home! Layering this rich medium with photo transfers, found materials, my original drawings and script, embellishments and techniques that suit each body of work nourish me. I constantly say that one life time will not be enough to fully explore and express all of the possibilities. The creative process sustains me and I love the opportunities to watch my audience experience them firsthand. The complex layers offer the viewer an opportunity to explore the intricacies and ideally I hope that they have moments of both discovery and make their own personal associations with the imagery. The opportunity to witness those associations enriches my life and is a constant reminder of the universal power of art and the connections between the artist, the art and the viewer.
