Under the name Ben’s Lemonaid, I create naturalistic sculptures using reclaimed and recycled materials. I don’t add paint, allowing the original colours, textures, and patina to remain as I find them.
My background in construction informs my process, where discarded industrial materials are reworked into organic forms. I’m drawn to their wear and weathering, using them to explore themes of renewal, perception, and reuse.
I often work with salvaged aluminum siding and eavestroughs, burned-out lightbulbs, and reclaimed wire. These materials are inherently unpredictable, and I have little control over what becomes available, so each piece is shaped by what I find. As a result, every work is one of a kind, and each series remains limited. Because many of these materials are designed for outdoor use, my sculptures are often suited for year-round outdoor display.
Operating out of London, Ontario, I have created two public art installations, including a 28-foot sunflower, along with retail signage, commissioned pieces, and self-imagined sculptures.
