Denise Nonomura is a Stratford artist working in the beautiful medium of soft pastel. After a thirty-five-year career in health care, Denise followed her love of art and enrolled at Sheridan College of Art and Design in 2013 and graduated from the Fine Arts Certificate program with high honors in 2015. She now works full time as an artist and has earned multiple awards at the national and regional level. She is a juried member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and has earned her signature status with the Society of Canadian Artists and is also a signature member of Pastel Artists of Canada.

Since graduating in 2015, Denise’s work has been exhibited at Gallery Stratford Public Art Gallery and in over 40 juried international, national and regional competitions for both pastel and open medium exhibitions. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, USA and Europe.

Denise paints in pastel, contemporary landscapes and still life, and also accepts commissions for these subjects as well as for pet and people portraits in pastel, graphite or charcoal. All her artistic work is completed with care on archival surfaces with the highest quality materials and is professionally framed.

Denise states “I paint subjects that I find a connection to. I strive to capture the light, colour and atmosphere whether I’m painting the landscape or unique still life arrangements. My goal with painting what moves me is to evoke an emotion in the viewer. When a viewer connects with my work and finds that it has the ability to stir within them meaning, a memory or a feeling, then I have accomplished this goal”.
