I was born in Chile, I immigrated to Canada at the age of eighteen, studied to be a nurse, worked at Victoria hospital London ON as an operating room technician.
I had to take an early retirement because of illness at the age of 61yrs. I realized quite soon after I retired that I had to have some sort of hobby or go crazy from boredom, so I happened to go to a wood show with my husband and saw someone turning on a wood lathe, I was amazed at how you could create something beautiful out of a chunk of wood by turning and carving it on a wood lathe, needless to say I was hooked, and so started a new chapter in my life.
I joined the Thames Valley wood turning Guild in London ON. The members were so helpful and so willing to share their knowledge with me, they became my mentors, I learned so much from them.
As I progressed and I started to turn out some acceptable work, I decided to sell some of it.
I became a member of Stratford Art in the Park, where again I was amongst a group of wonderful artist and artisans. Art in the Park has a beautiful setting alongside the Avon River, a beautiful location where you can go for walks and enjoy the swans gliding along the river. People from all over visit Stratford in the summer as they attend the festival of Shakespeare plays and more.
I enjoy the interaction of people from all over the world, it’s a wonderful experience.
I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to discover this talent which has brought me great pleasure.
