As a young girl I loved watching my mother sew or repair our clothes and home decor items.  She did everything including reupholstering our old furniture.  I learned so much from her, sitting there hours on end.  I didn’t know then that I would have a love of fabric that would last my whole life.

I’ve had a few careers during the years, my last being an upholsterer.  I love taking an old piece of furniture and transforming it into a beautiful, functional item.  My love of fabric made this career the perfect choice for me.

Now that I’m semi-retired, I can do what I love best, and that is creating art quilts.  I love how the fabric gives the piece a whole different dimension.  It adds vibrant colour, varied textures and is easy to fix up or change when I’ve made a mistake.  This form of art allows me to explore different techniques such as thread painting, fabric painting and dyeing.  I’ve been having a wonderful time trying this and trying that, figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
The subject matter that I seem to gravitate to is nature and animals, although lately I’ve been having fun with human faces.

This form of art continues to excite me.  I can’t wait to get to work in the morning.  My love of fabric continues.
